The 639 model is a great small, shallow diving jerkbait. It is primarily used in a drift with a carolina style rig – dragging upstream of the boat. It has proven effective in the imitation of baitfish found in the lake and targets all sizes of fish. It can be used in bank fishing, without the carolina rig. The 639 model is also effective in stillwater settings such as ponds or lakes using a normal retrieve vs a jerking action. It will attract other species such as crappie and all varieties bass.
Why the 639 model? At 2.5″ long, it very closely resembles the size of our baitfish. Several Taneycomo guides prefer this size, and it is best suited for flow conditions of 10,000 c.f.s. or less. The wide wobble for this model has been described as more of a “shimmy” and includes a bit of a twisting action.
